Convert GIF to JPG

GIF note: animated GIFs are converted from their first frame. Animation is not preserved.

Transparency: JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas will be filled with your chosen background color.

Why Convert GIF to JPG?

The conversion runs on a server using the JPEG encoder, which means you get a genuine JPG file rather than a repackaged one. GIF is an old but universal format that supports simple animations and a limited 256-color palette. It is still popular for small looping animations and simple graphics. JPG is the most widely used lossy photo format. It compresses photographs to small file sizes by discarding some visual detail, and it is supported by virtually every device and platform.

GIF supports transparency but JPG does not. Our converter lets you pick a background color — white by default — so transparent areas are replaced cleanly instead of becoming black or broken.

When the input is an animated GIF, only the first frame is converted. This converter produces a single static JPG image and does not preserve GIF animation.

You can adjust the JPG quality setting: higher values preserve more detail and produce larger files, while lower values shrink the output size at the cost of some visual detail.

Benefits of JPG Conversion

  • Smaller JPG file sizes: The JPEG encoder compresses your image efficiently, which helps the output load faster on websites and fit easier into upload limits.
  • Quality control: Choose the JPG quality level that fits your project — a slider lets you trade file size against visual detail before you download.
  • Privacy-friendly processing: Your image is processed in memory and deleted after the download. Nothing is stored on the server and no account is required.
  • No software installation: Everything happens online in your browser. You can convert on any device with a modern browser — desktop, tablet, or phone.

Limitations to Keep in Mind

  • JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose — white by default.
  • Only the first frame of an animated GIF is converted. GIF animation is not preserved when converting to a static format.
  • Re-encoding already-compressed GIF files can accumulate artifacts if you convert repeatedly; it is best to convert from the original image whenever possible.
  • Metadata such as EXIF data is stripped from the output by default, so camera details and location information are not carried into the converted file.

How to Convert GIF to JPG

  1. Upload a GIF image

Drag and drop a GIF file into the converter card or click the browse button to choose one from your device.

  2. Set JPG options

adjust the JPG quality slider and pick a background color for transparent areas.

  3. Click Convert

Press the Convert button. The image is processed on the server with the JPEG encoder and returned as a JPG file.

  4. Download your file

Preview the result, then click Download to save the converted JPG image to your device. You can convert another image with a single click.

Conversion Questions

Why does my GIF with transparency need a background color?

JPG does not support alpha transparency, so transparent pixels must be filled with a solid color. White is the default; choose any color that suits your design before converting.

Will the GIF animation be preserved?

No. When converting a GIF, only the first frame is used and the result is a single static JPG image. JPG is not animated in this conversion, so looping GIFs are flattened to one frame.

Which JPG quality should I choose?

Start with 85 for photos and 70 for simpler graphics when you need small files. If detail is important, use 90 or above. You can convert the same image a few times with different settings and compare the file size.

Can I convert animated GIF files?

The first frame of an animated GIF is converted to a static JPG image. Animation is not preserved.

Are my images saved or shared?

No. Uploads are processed in memory and discarded immediately after conversion. The server does not store, log, or reuse your images.

Will my photo metadata (EXIF) be kept?

No. Metadata is stripped from converted files by default for privacy, so camera settings and location data are not included in the output.

Will the converted image look different?

Minor differences are normal when the target format uses lossy compression. Use a higher quality setting to keep more detail, or convert from the original file rather than a previously compressed one.

What are the upload limits?

Files must be 10 MB or smaller and no larger than 40 megapixels. Larger images are rejected to keep processing fast and safe.
